============================================================================= Run Date: APR 21, 2021 Designation: PREN*3.1*7 Package : PREN - PHARMACY PRODUCT SYS-NATL Priority: Mandatory Version : 3.1 SEQ #5 Status: Released Compliance Date: MAY 22, 2021 ============================================================================= Subject: UPDATE TRANSACTION MANAGEMENT for FEDERAL SUPPLY SCHEDULE (FSS) JOB. Category: - Informational - Other Description: ============ The Pharmacy Product System - National (PPS-N) is a Web-based application that provides the ability to manage pharmacy-specific data across the VA enterprise ensuring that all facilities are using the same base data for their operations. It allows approved national VA personnel to easily, quickly, and safely manage the VA National Formulary which directs which products (such as medications and supplies) are to be purchased and used by the VA hospital system. The purpose of this patch is to correct a bug in the transaction management logic of the PPS-N application code which currently prevents the proper closure of database transactions. This remediation is necessary in order to allow the PPS-N FSS job to resume retrieving and processing pricing information for National Drug Codes (NDC). Defect Tracking System Ticket(s) & Overview: ============================================ INC16061886 - PPS-N application failed to run Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) due to the database transaction commit issue. Problem ----------- PPS-N application failed to update the National Drug Codes (NDC) to PPS-N Enterprise Product List (EPL) database because of a bug in the transaction management logic associated with the PPS-N application's FSS job. The root cause of this issue was a failure of the application logic to properly close database transactions. Resolution: ----------- Update the portion of JAVA code to correct the bug in the transaction management logic of the PPS-N application code which currently prevents the proper closure of database transactions. Application code has been updated according to best practices for transaction management, thereby ensuring database connections are properly closed when no longer needed. This allows the PPS-N FSS job to resume retrieving and processing pricing information for National Drug Codes (NDC). Test Sites: ----------- User acceptance testing successfully completed by the Business Office.
