============================================================================= Run Date: MAY 13, 2025 Designation: PREC*7*1 Package : PREC - PHARMACY ENTERPRISE CUSTOM S Priority: Mandatory Version : 7 SEQ #1 Status: Released Compliance Date: JUN 13, 2025 ============================================================================= Subject: PECS 7.0.1 UPGRADE IN SUPPORT OF FDB FWK UPGRADE FROM V3.3 TO V4.5 Category: - Informational - Other Description: ============ The Pharmacy Reengineering (PRE) Project provided innovative enhancements to Clinical Decision Support (CDS) within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Medication order checks are currently accomplished through the synergistic functionality of multiple applications, including Medication Order Check Healthcare Application (MOCHA), Pharmacy Enterprise Customization System (PECS), Pharmacy Product System-National (PPS-N), and Data Update (DATUP). The PECS application, through a web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI), allows VHA pharmacists and clinicians to research and request custom changes to Drug-Drug Interaction, Drug Pairs, Dose Range, Duplicate Therapy, and Professional Monograph records, controlling access through a role based authorization. VHA Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) periodically (as needed in support of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) procedures and priorities) prepare, review, and approve the customizations, which result in VA Custom drug data, which will supersede or enhance the industry standard First Databank (FDB) drug data. VHA, Patient Care Services (PCS), and PBM has requested the FDB Framework (Fwk) upgrade from version 3.3 to version 4.5 for VA Pharmacy applications. MOCHA Server will be upgrading the Application Programming Interface (API) calls in support of the FDB Fwk version 4.5 upgrade. ****** Please note, this informational patch is release 7 in a series of releases to upgrade VA clinical applications to FDB version 4.5. For this release, an upgraded PECS using FDB version 4.5 will be deployed to production, to run in parallel to the existing PECS using FDB version 3.3. PECS using FDB version 3.3 would continue to be used nationally until subsequent patches are released that would switch VA clinical applications to PECS using FDB version 4.5 and disable PECS using FDB version 3.3. ****** Files & Fields Associated: File Name (Number) Field Name (Number) New/Modified/Deleted ------------------ ------------------- -------------------- Not Applicable (N/A) Forms Associated: Form Name File Number New/Modified/Deleted --------- ----------- -------------------- N/A Mail Groups Associated: Mail Group Name New/Modified/Deleted --------------- -------------------- N/A Options Associated: Option Name Type New/Modified/Deleted ----------- ---- -------------------- N/A Protocols Associated: N/A Protocol Name New/Modified/Deleted ------------- -------------------- N/A Security Keys Associated: Security Key Name ----------------- N/A Templates Associated: Template Name Type File Name (Number) New/Modified/Deleted ------------- ---- ------------------ -------------------- N/A Remote Procedures Associated: Remote Procedure Name New/Modified/Deleted --------------------- -------------------- N/A Parameter Definitions Associated: Parameter Name New/Modified/Deleted -------------- -------------------- N/A Additional Information: Blood Bank Team Coordination: ---------------------------- N/A New Service Requests (NSRs): ---------------------------- N/A Patient Safety Issues (PSIs): ----------------------------- N/A Defect Tracking System Ticket(s) & Overview: ============================================ PECS-420: PECS - TRM Compliance Problem: -------- PECS application contains Java components which are subject to compliance with Technical Reference Model (TRM) to maintain authority to operate (ATO).
