In a ServiceNow (SNOW) ticket directed to the Master Patient Index (MPI) it was reported that there are some VistA sites experiencing an issue where the Last Name (Surname) for a patient was being updated with their entire display name: Ie. , Upon release of patch DG*5.3*1050 the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [VAFC VOA ADD PATIENT] that is invoked to Proxy Add an entry to the PATIENT (#2) file was enhanced in routine VAFCPTAD to update the NAME COMPONENTS (#20) file to allow for storing of the complete patient name especially when it exceeds the allowable length of the NAME (#.01) field in the PATIENT (#2) file. Unfortunately, there was an issue introduced in the code changes when the NAME COMPONENTS (#20) file was being updated where the software was expecting to receive the name in "^" delimited format: Ie. ^^^ but was actually passed the name in the VistA display format above. This should have resulted in the NAME COMPONENTS (#20) file entry NOT getting updated, but the software has been updated to correct this and thereby eliminate it as a possible factor going forward as MPI has been unable to replicate the intermittent issue in any environment. Resolution: ----------- Routine VAFCPTAD was updated to correct an issue that was introduced when the original changes to store the complete patient name in the NAME COMPONENTS (#20) file for a patient proxy add that was exported in patch DG*5.3*1050, especially if it exceeded the NAME (#.01) field length in the PATIENT (#2) file. Specifically, the name was passed in the wrong format (Display versus Delimited) when the update to the NAME COMPONENTS (#20) file occurs.
