This patch will allow the data exchange between VistA and VDIF, which was previously exchanged between VistA and E-Gate. The generated HL7 message will route to one of six VDIF Regional Routers and then route from VDIF to IVM. One Logical Link is added by this patch: EASLLZ09. The new entry will be added to the HL LOGICAL LINK FILE (#870). One protocol is modified to use the new logical link: PROTOCOL FILE (#101), entry EAS EDB ORU-Z09 CLIENT. The product is currently used at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in conjunction with the VistA Interface Engine (VIE) to support messaging primarily between VistA and IVM. This product has reached its end of life and is no longer supported by the vendor. The consequences of reaching its end of life are that no new enhancements or bug fixes are available from the vendor and there is no certification of the product against new operating system patches. Although E-Gate has performed well and has required little support from its vendor, this situation presents great risk for the VA. If E-Gate fails in production, there are no recovery options available. Specifically, if E-Gate were to fail, VA's ability to automatically verify Veteran's income would not be available and VA would have to resort to a manual operation in this area. Resolution: ---------- The VDIF-EP solution is needed to allow the VA to retire E-Gate while maintaining verification of Veterans' income. VDIF is replacing E-Gate as middleware.
