============================================================================= Run Date: NOV 29, 2012 Designation: MAG*3*123 Package : MAG - IMAGING Priority: Mandatory Version : 3 SEQ #83 Status: Released Compliance Date: JAN 15, 2013 ============================================================================= Associated patches: (v)MAG*3*99 <<= must be installed BEFORE `MAG*3*123' (v)MAG*3*122 <<= must be installed BEFORE `MAG*3*123' Subject: INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE (IHS) PATIENT IDENTIFIER Category: - Routine - Data Dictionary - Other Description: ============ MAG*3.0*123 will enable the use of IHS Patient Identifiers in VistA Imaging Applications. This patch will address patient identifier lookup issues for the Indian Health Service (IHS) and allow IHS sites to use Health Record Number (HRN) in place of Social Security Number (SSN) to uniquely identify patients. This patch incorporates the following Patient Identifier functionality for IHS and will mainstream the software modifications so IHS can install new VistA Imaging patches as they are released in the VA. * The DICOM Text Gateway software will use HRN in Modality Worklist as a patient identifier at IHS facilities. * The MUMPS DICOM Image Gateway will use HRN for matching patients when processing images into RPMS at IHS facilities. * Leading zeros will be stripped off of the HRN if present when processing images at IHS facilities. * The DICOM Correct utilities will use HRN for patient matching at IHS facilities. * When sending images to remote locations, the Routing application will update the patient ID attribute of the DICOM header with the HRN at IHS facilities. * When exporting images, the DICOM Query/Retrieve application will use HRN when updating the patient ID attribute in the DICOM header at IHS facilities. * The PACS ADT/Order interface will use HRN as the patient identifier in the HL7 PID message segment at IHS facilities. NOTE: HRN is only unique within a division of Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) at IHS facilities. NOTE: All sites must install the KIDS portion of this patch on the VistA System. Sites that have implemented the DICOM Gateways should install the DICOM Gateway software as well. When users install this patch, they need to update their gateway configuration settings by running options 4-2-2. 4 - VistA DICOM System Maintenance 2 - Gateway Configuration and DICOM Master Files 2 - Update Gateway Configuration Parameters When going through the Gateway configuration settings, they will be prompted to specify whether the DICOM Gateway is installed at a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) site or an Indian Health Services (IHS) site. Is this gateway installed in VA (V)or IHS (I)? V// Installation (VA Sites) ----------------------- This installation provides instructions for installing the patch at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) sites. The installation prerequisites and instructions for IHS sites vary slightly and are described in the Installation (IHS Sites) section. Installation Planning --------------------- This patch must be installed by the compliance date to conform with VHA Directive 2001-023. NOTE: All sites running VistA Imaging 3.0 must install the KIDS portion of this patch. The time that it will take to install the various components of this patch is as follows: Installing the KIDS takes about two minutes. Installing the DICOM Gateway takes about 10-15 minutes. Review the installation instructions in this MAG*3.0*123 Patch Description before beginning the installation. NOTE: Do not use Remote Desktop to install the DICOM Gateway software. Attempts to install it using Remote Desktop will fail. You can use other applications such as PC Anywhere and DameWare for remote installations. TIP: It is a good idea to schedule the installation of a patch for a time when adequate support resources are available and system load is expected to be low. Steps in the Installation Process --------------------------------- Installing MAG*3.0*123 involves these stages, which should be performed in this order: 1 Installing the KIDS package. 2 Installing the DICOM Gateway software (the file MAG3_0P123_DICOM_Setup.exe). You must install on all DICOM Gateways by using the administrator account. Installation Prerequisites -------------------------- Before installing this patch, you will need to download the MAG*3.0*123 KIDS package from the Imaging FTP site to a local storage location.
