$TXT Created by at CPRS32.DOMAIN.EXT (KIDS) on Tuesday, 12/13/22 at 16:06 ============================================================================= Run Date: JAN 05, 2023 Designation: OR*3*599 Package : OR - ORDER ENTRY/RESULTS REPORTING Priority: EMERGENCY Version : 3 SEQ #502 Status: Released Compliance Date: JAN 15, 2023 ============================================================================= Associated patches: (v)OR*3*405 <<= must be installed BEFORE `OR*3*599' Subject: DON'T REQUIRE INDICATIONS ON COPY Category: - Other Description: ============ In the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) version 32b, a new field was added to the medication order dialogs. The INDICATIONS field is now required on all medication orders, except for supplies and non-VA medications. A side effect of this is that attempting to COPY TO NEW ORDER for an order entered prior to 32b will cause the CPRS Graphical User Interface (GUI) to immediately open an order dialog so the provider can enter the indications. When a provider edits an order during the copy action, some recalculations occur on the dispense information for the medication. As it happens, this occurs prior to 32b, as well, however, with the new required field is forcing it on essentially every copy of previously entered medication orders. This is causing some potential patient safety issues due to change in dispense information. For example: a patient was previously receiving 5 mg of Oxycodone in the form of a single 5mg tablet. However, the recalculation forces that to one-half of a 10mg tablet. The purpose of this patch is to temporarily turn off the requirement for indications on a copy action. The result will be that the edit dialog will not automatically open. ******NOTE***** If the provider selects to EDIT, which has always been an option, the recalculation will still occur. The correction to this long-term issue will be addressed once stakeholders can determine the proper path forward for copy/edit.
