Patient Safety Issues (PSIs): N/A Defect Tracking System Ticket(s) & Overview: N/A Problem: -------- After work hours there is often only one radiology technician on duty to handle cases from the Emergency Department (ED). That technician stays in the ED area but the ED radiology requests continue to print to the radiology printers defined for daytime hours in the respective departments. This potentially causes delays due to requests not being seen in a timely manner. Resolution: ----------- The Device Specifications for Imaging Locations [RA DEVICE] menu is modified to include a new AFTER HOURS REQUEST PRINTER. If a printer device is entered in this new field, several additional parameters will be presented that must be filled out. If no after hours printer is entered, the additional prompts will not be displayed. The new parameters are: ALTERNATE PRINTER USAGE - This location parameter is used in conjunction with the ALTERNATE REQUEST PRINTER to define its usage. The choices are: 1 AFTER HOURS PRINTER 2 ALTERNATE PRINTER If After Hours Printer is selected, the printing logic will evaluate the After Hours parameters BEGIN/END times, along with WEEKEND, HOLIDAY and CATEGORY OF EXAM to determine if the request should be routed to the ALTERNATE REQUEST PRINTER. If Alternate Printer is selected, the alternate printer parameters REQUESTING LOCATION and CATEGORY OF EXAM will be evaluated to determine if the request should be routed to the ALTERNATE REQUEST PRINTER. AFTER HOURS BEGIN TIME - This parameter is used with after hours printing only. It is the time of day that radiology requests will be routed to the AFTER HOURS printer you selected (i.e. 7:00PM) AFTER HOURS END TIME - This is the time of day that radiology requests will revert back to printing to your normal default request printer.(i.e. 7:00AM) ARP CATEGORY OF EXAM - This parameter is used with both after hours and alternate printer usage. It allows you to select inpatient, outpatient or ALL categories of requests to be routed to the alternate printer. AFTER HOURS WEEKEND - This parameter allows the user to define weekends (Saturday/Sunday) as after hours. If set, all requests will be routed to the after hours printer for the duration of the weekend. AFTER HOURS HOLIDAY - This parameter allows the user to define holidays as after hours. If set, all requests will be routed to the after hours printer on that day. ***Note that this parameter relies on the HOLIDAY file (#40.5) being populated correctly with the Federal holidays.*** ALTERNATE PRT REQUESTING LOC - This parameter is used with the alternate printer usage only to identify the requesting location(s) whose requests will be sent to the alternate printer.
