Problem: Released patch XU*8*653, DEFERRED ALERT FOR CPRS, allows a user in CPRS to defer an alert for a maximum of 14 days. The deferral works for simple cases, but it is not fully integrated with other aspects of Alerts, such as surrogacy periods, Alert Tracking, etc. Solution: Code has been added to ensure that the alert deferral feature is well integrated with the functionality of VistA Alerts. The following are some of the use cases implemented and tested: a) A surrogate may defer an alert up to the minimum of 14 days or the end of the surrogacy period. This ensures that the deferred alert is delivered to the intended recipient on time: the surrogate if within the surrogacy period; or the initial recipient at the end of the surrogacy period. b) An initial recipient who defers an alert to a later date and also assigns a surrogate for a period that encompasses the deferred date. The deferred alert will be delivered to the surrogate. c) When an alert is deferred, and delivered to a surrogate and vice versa, the change to the alert is added to the ALERT TRACKING file (# 8992.1) to ensure that the history of the alert is recorded.
